Originally trained in graphic design, Mark has spent over 15 years working in the design and advertising industries. He founded HYPA.tv, an animation company in 1997, where he worked on some of the worlds most famous brands including Virgin Atlantic, Peugeot and Lego. With a love of strong graphic styles added with a desire to twist traditional techniques his artwork uses modern digital printing processes as well as more traditional screen-printing.Inspiration comes from iconic imagery, counter culture movies and 3D technology culminating in a clever and unique visual style.

As a Chartered Mechanical Engineer, Mark Tomkins has a background which has given him the skills to engineer very high quality products, using a variety of materials and manufacturing techniques. From functional items and components through to decorative pieces, his work has a unique and special quality which is not usually found in mass produced goods. Influenced by industrial design, contemporary art and traditional styles, he creates limited edition batches or one-off pieces using a variety of materials and processes. Mark Tomkins is passionate about UK manufacturing, and deliberately seeks to manufacture or source all component parts here in the UK and preferably locally in Sussex. For the 2010 open house he will be displaying a small range of mantel and wall clocks in anodised aluminium.
