"My work is trees from a hillside in the fog, the pine trees of Rome, reflections in water, stories and codes, Cinecitta, films, the sixties, movement through dimensions, playful storytelling, rememberance and regret, loves and whispers, laughter and drinking, GRAPPA and the aroma of coffee and urine, torrential rain and mist, driving on backroads, falling asleep under the stars, the simple innocence of a child's eye."

"Some of these works are an homage to Donnatello, Rouault and Italian Vogue. When I have an insomniac night, I get up and do something, or make something, or write. Last night, I grabbed one of my sticks of compressed charcoal and some wallpaper i stitched to the size I wanted, some loose pages from an old notebook, and wrote three pages of haiku, plus twenty or thirty drawings. I wrote about the memories and dreams that were in my mind. I wrote about the charcoal itself. [The drawings are made with compressed charcoal on heavyweight lining wallpaper, sellotaped together.]I drew memories of friends and images of the past, and anticipations of my next journey. I drew till the images faded, as they apparently had wanted to do. I drew till the tidal push was over, and the pressure eased, then I could fall asleep peacefully, my whirling mind calmed and settled. I awoke feeling calm and refreshed, with a mind of quietnessmore at peace than ever."

My current working practice includes constructions that change over time and where the viewer becomes engaged on both an aesthetic and physical level. My main materials to date are aluminum foil and neon. My work combines two conflicting yet tangible phenomena, colour and light -Neon is vulnerable under certain conditions and begins to flicker, foil has many qualities that fascinate me, It is both seductive and repellent, because of its food packaging associations, It has many metaphoric associations which echo human existence. My hope is that the immediate visual appeal of the work allows further entrance to ideas of mortality. Stephen will present his collection of art known as The Worthing Trust Fund

What was your purpose in choosing the postboxes of bn11 as your project?
I think the red postbox, like the double decker bus and the telephone box is so english, the Japanese flag is also red and white but we are more self contained in our circle our spot, the english flag is expansive, western, architectural. There are exactly 69 postboxes in bn11 area. I wanted to photograph them all, in this way I am enamoured of the situation, the aspect of the box and the time of day I photograph it. It is a sculptural thing, mostly unoticed, and yet in daily use. It is opened at least 5 times a week, it has only a single orifice, a hole to receive the messages of love and hate, business and pleasure. With the introduction of the internet, the snail-mail is necessary but mostly unloved.
